Adam Burke found himself in the leisure products business literally by accident. In 1992, while working as an outside sales representative in the telecom industry, he was involved in an auto accident which left him suffering from whiplash. A physical therapist recommended a spa to relieve the pain. While searching for this spa, Adam was both disturbed and amazed by his shopping experience. Coming from a professional sales consultant background, he was disturbed by the high-pressure and often annoying sales tactics being used by the sales associates that he encountered. He was amazed that shopping for an "enjoyment" product could be so completely un-enjoyable.

Atlanta Spa & Leisure was born in mid 1993 with the idea that the leisure products industry needed a customer focused, upbeat, low-pressure retail company.
